Triathlon Challenges Teach Me Valuable Lessons.

Challenges teach me valuable lessons. I think that is why I am drawn to the world of triathlon, cycling and multisport races - they challenge me, test my resolve and I learn a new lesson or thing about myself with each training & race journey.

Triathlons and Endurance Cycling can be challenging and will challenge you. Period. But they shape and mold you into a better version of yourself.

Learning to swim and ride a bike as a "old gal" was certainly a stare the gun down the barrel kind of moment for me. Having endured a few oops, gulping chlorinated water, flops and crashes - I am as steely and fortified as a knight's sword now.

When I encounter challenging situations, I avoid running away from them now. Being able to face obstacles gives me a chance to overcome them. Besides, the rush one get's from conquering a fear or overcoming adversity is euphoric. Win-Win.

There are valuable lessons to be learned from trying and Tri'ing circumstances <see what I did there🤣> . My strength is tested and renewed with each hurdle in front of me. I am a force to be reckoned with because I use experiences to strengthen my heart and soul in multisport and in real life.

Emotional hurdles are difficult because they are personal. I recognize that there are times when it is best to put my feelings aside and suck it up buttercup.

Managing overwhelming feelings while going through life and training for triathlons teaches me to balance. I avoid breaking down in the midst of situations that require my focus. Taking this approach helps me to keep control of my emotions and stay on target.

Creativity is a valuable lesson that comes from challenges. When I am at a crossroads I am forced to think quickly and choose a path. Learning to juggle swim-bike-run-strength-active recovery training sessions and days - WILL - bring out the creativity in you.

Like bringing your trainer and bike to your kids 2 hours soccer practice so you can be present and get you training knock out - I may of gotten a few "looks" - but that bit of creativity allowed me to knock out 3 things simultaneously and afforded me the delight of going to bed at a decent hour to catch much appreciated beauty zzz's 😴.

Making decisions at Swim Bike Run Fun shows others how I am am able to prioritize. I've learned how to balance all sides of a tough situation before making a fair decision. I would like to think that is why I am a pretty darn good cycling group ride leader and route planner.

When I am faced with uncertainty, I avoid panicking. I realize that keeping my cool in times of doubt sharpens my judgment.

Today, I embrace the lessons that I learn from facing my difficulties. I know that I am poised to grow with each challenge I tackle head on.

My focus now that I am rehabbing- is on learning something new about myself each day. If you want to follow along or looking for your own breakthrough, I am sharing my mini-self reflection journaling and though prompts I use for success.
